Dylan is a young lady who has been through a lot.
You’d better not call her a lady, though, or prepare to be torn apart by her bare hands. Ever since leaving the place, she grew up, her hatred towards her dad and her step-mum has grown. Now she’s returned with one goal, to reunite with her childhood friend and crush, Jace. With her father in jail and her Aunt taking her in for Dylan’s senior year of high school, reconnecting with Jace when he’s the school bully will be a challenge – one that Dylan is willing to take. But with Jace holding on to secreting, Dylan isn’t going to get any answers straight away. Spoon-fed like a baby isn’t what she had in mind when she returned, but the truth of the matter Dylan won’t forget for the rest of her life.
The first bully romance I found was not surprisingly dark yet humorous and heartwarming. Ashley Jade has written something I’ve yet to experience and want to experience more of and considering this the first book in the Royal Hearts Academy series, I just hope the rest lives up to the first.
Note: I would recommend the audiobook; I got on very well with the Audible app. #ADNotSponsored.
I will state is that one character was dealing with severe anxiety issues and possible issues of bipolar after an accident, meaning he had difficulties communicating verbally. I think certainly with the audiobook; they could have considered an actor who actually experienced that as it did seem put on (if it wasn’t, I’m so sorry). That’s something that could be considered not just here but on a broader scale.
I still loved this book; it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the dark romance between Jace and Dylan. It did make me feel a little uncomfortable, and perhaps that’s the intention all along, I don’t know. #Pleasebekind
