Trigger Warnings: Suicide, murder, betrayal, past abusive relationship, loss of a loved one, signs of memory loss and symptoms of PTSD.

Going into this, I was expecting a pure, full-blown thriller. What I got was a mysterious, funny, (perhaps) dark romance that kept me hooked on what was going to happen next. I had my theories, but they were wrong until the last few chapters.

Winslow (Winnie or even Quin) Covington leads her life by the letter of the law, and being the newly appointed chief of police, she’s determined to prove that she got the job fair and square. It has nothing to do with the fact that her grandfather is mayor. That seems to get off to a rocky start when she discovers she’d had a one-night stand with none other than the town’s golden boy, Griffin Eden. The Eden family have several businesses in the town and are respected by everyone locally, well, almost everyone. Since investigating the Indigo Ridge suicides, Winslow has a feeling something isn’t right. As more evidence gets collected, she and Griffin become friendlier as they get closer to concluding the deaths on Indigo Ridge.

I know some might find this book difficult to read, you only have to look at the trigger warnings, but I’ll say this. Yes, Indigo Ridge deals with serious content matters, but at the same time, it’s witty, clever and surprisingly funny. I remember watching a reading vlog by Princess of Paperback on YouTube, aka Madison Mary, where she read this book.

I didn’t expect to laugh as much as I did while listening to the audiobook in the quiet kitchen on an early Sunday morning. I’m surprised the rest of the house didn’t wake up with me cackling downstairs at the banter and text of this book. I can remember her really enjoying it, and the fact that it was a mystery romance caught my attention. I realised it was a book series known as the Eden series when I looked it up, so needless to say, I’ll be reading the next book soon.
