Where is the Butler? Manga Vol 1

Honestly, watching a YouTube video regarding the first volume of the Black Bulter, I wasn’t expecting much. Boy, was I wrong.

The video review I watched basically stated that it was ok – they didn’t hate it. I really enjoyed it. Will I go as far as to say I loved it? No.

The outskirts of London, England. The Earl Phantomhive is a huge name in town. The head of an empire of the biggest toy giant in the world. Would anyone guess that he would still be a child? It’s a good job that Phantomhive has his long-time and trusted butler Sebastian by his side; at his backend call 24/7. Whether the staff hasn’t got their act together with a dinner party or whether his young twelve-year-old Master ends up in a sticky situation that he can’t escape from himself. The Earl of Phantomhive’s butler will be there.

Front Cover of the Manga Vol 1

Honestly, without spoiling anything, I didn’t expect this manga to take the turn that it did. In the beginning, I thought the young Earl was stuck up and spoiled. Sebastian; was a workaholic and a bossy boot. However, as I continued in the first volume, I was amused by how rubbish the rest of the Earl’s staff was, and I guess interested in his frustration to be taken seriously as a businessman, considering he’s twelve.

There’s a scene where a walking stick or cane is being collected. A comment is made on the height of the individual as the maker states that it’s the smallest one he’s made. He never imagined it would be for a child. Passing one of his toy stores, a child not that much younger is bugging his parent for a toy; let’s be honest, we’ve all been there. The Earl tells Sebastian that the child would never know that the boss of that toy store is a child himself. It’s almost like he can’t believe it himself. It’s almost as if The Earl of Phantomhive has very like confidence in himself which is understandable considering he’s a twelve-year-old in a man’s world. There’s got to be true stories of this, though, I’m sure.

I so want to pick up the second volume, and considering I got the copy from my local library, I hope it has the next volume.
