A Spoonful of Sugar? How about A Spoonful of Murder?

Trigger Warnings: Dementia/Alzheimer’s disease, murder, frauduary, and relationship difficulties.

Audible, audiobook cover

It’s always tragic when a friend and former coworker has Dementia, but when their life savings are stolen, could anything be worse? It seems for Topsy, things can.

I don’t know about you, but the one thing I fear the most is forgetting my mum’s or my brother’s name. Extreme, I know, but having multiple family members die from Dementia and/or Alzheimer’s, there were times when I found this book (via audio) hard to read. The way the ladies band together to solve the mystery of the death of their friend is something I haven’t seen for a long time in a book.

What makes it even better is that it keeps me on my toes. One minute I thought I knew exactly what was happening, but another woman figured something out, and the plot took a U-turn. Information is shared over the phone or with tea and cake at the local garden center. That’s my kind of detective work; they even get their children to help.

Was it for the better? I’m not sure. That could be because I have a strong personal connection to the subject matter (Dementia and Alzheimer’s). Needless to say, the fact that the author is also a schoolteacher, as are these women in his book, I will be waiting for the next book. These women, sadly, aren’t done yet.
