The First Strike: A Cuckoo comes Calling

Trigger Warnings: Murder, talk of homelessness, suicide, terminal illness, relationship issues, and adaption.

Ok, I have a confession. I haven’t watched any of the TV series on which the books are based off. Who knows, I might read all the books and then watch the series.

Audiobook Cover via Audible.

Cormoran Strike is my new boss and I, Robin Ellacott have been sent as his temp. I can’t tell a lie Strike is a man who is struggling, professionally and personally as far as I can see. I mean on my first day, I felt so lost that after making tea and coffee (handing out biscuits) I began to tidy up.

When the brother of a childhood friend arrives at Strike’s office he feels he has to take the case. The family in question had a son who died in a scrap yard ruled as an accident. Apparently, he was a seven-year-old boy the family adopted who was no stranger to adventure.

Now, the family has lost another adopted daughter. A supermodel who was no stranger to a nightclub or party. Her death has been ruled a suicide. Strike has investigated, and uncovered some unsavory, family dynamics.

Enough to kill for though? That’s the question I’m asking.

Now, I may have started as a temp, but I’ll be sticking around here for a bit, so what will happen next?
