Confusion for a two-star rating Volume 4 Conclusion: Back to Black Butler

Often you thank God for the food on your table, but here the reader needs to be careful what they wish for as trouble is afoot once again at the Phantomhive house.

Volume 4 of Black Bulter has the reader believing that London hasn’t seen the last of the deadly serial killer. Could another be operating as more bodies begin to show up once again in the capital’s streets? Left hanging for the public to witness.

Black Butler Volume 4 Cover

I’m getting graphic with the imagery so apologies, and don’t say I didn’t warn you. Instead of leaving their victim’s bodies on the street, the killer hangs them like a public execution is happening. I wasn’t sure if that was the beginning of a case for Phantomhive Ciel and Sabastian. Was it a flashback or in the present day, I still don’t know.

However, in this case, an Indian Prince has arrived at the Phantomhive property, and the uninvited guest seems to outstay his very quickly. Once everyone discovers the suspect is closer to the mystery house guest than first expected, the loyalties begin to change between each other, but once the hand of God is in the suspect’s grip Sebastian is certain that young Phantomhive Ciel has the arsenal to combat a plan. According to the Indian Prince, it needs to be cooked up fast.

Without a doubt volume 4 is the most confusing yet. It has to be a completely new case for young Phantomhive Ciel and Sabastian. Perhaps this is an entrance to unlocking more of their pasts? Because of the confusion, I gave it three stars, but upon reflection, I believe it might actually be two.
