The Haunting of Christmas Paws

Most of us have heard of the Ghost of Christmas past, I highly doubt you’ve heard of the Ghost of Christmas Paws. Once you come to the festive #4 novel in the series of The No.2 Feline Detective Agency you’ll be introduced to the Ghostly mistress.

An outbreak of flu has been swarming the village and Tilly isn’t going anywhere in the week leading up to Christmas. Hettie is concerned for her friend’s welfare as many haven’t made it through the flu to see Santa and his Reindeer visit. Tilly seems to be getting better and just as well when the two receive a very dangerous case; so far away and so close to Christmas.

Summoned by Lady Eloise Crabstock-Singe, Hettie and Tilly need to uncover exactly what is going on in Bodkin Moor. Lady Crabstock is concerned that she’ll be the next Crabstock to die at the hands of Christmas Paws. She’s already lost her brother and sister under mysterious circumstances and with a mistress of the manor becoming concerned she’ll be next, will Hettie and Tilly make it home in time for Christmas? There’s a stormy blizzard on the way.

Don’t get me me wrong, you need the classics at Christmas. That’s why there’s so many versions of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol still appearing over the years. If you want something different, I would highly recommend Mandy Morton’s The Ghost of Christmas Paws. As you’ve possibly worked out it is part of series, however I believe this particular book you’ll be okay reading as a standalone.

I’ve mentioned this book series is brilliant for cat lovers and while people can recognize feline behavior; you can pick up on almost human behavior too. It’s difficult to explain, you just have to embrace the world that Morton’ created. One thing I’ll say though, I found it anticlimactic that the so-called “dangerous case” that Hettie and Tilly took could have been literally fiction (make of that what you will). Because of that, I’m giving book No. 4 in the series four stars for me it’s a unique Christmas read. It’s my understanding that book five is also a Christmas read and it’s only the 24th November.
