Samantha Sweet Series Book 15
The atmosphere of Christmas has been imagined, captured, and bottled in Samantha (Sam) Sweet’s bakery. As soon as you begin reading, jingle bells commence from Tao’s favorite baker. The well-known festive melody is forced to stop when her Granddaughter Anna bursts into the kitchen with her mother, Kelly.
Spoilers
If you’ve read the previous books, you would know that Sam, a bakery and previous chocolate factory owner, is the former sheriff’s wife and has the assistance of mystical powers.
Nowadays, her husband Beau has retired from law enforcement and has been ranching his land with his handler Danny, who, if you’ve read the previous book, you would have met before in the most unfortunate events – Sam now assists her bakery managing it from afar so to speak. There’s one thing Sam hasn’t managed to shake off. Getting involved with Taos’s crimes, so much so that her ‘mystical powers’ are still at work and since have been shared with Kelly as mother and daughter have become amateur detectives.
Perhaps knowing Sam’s reputation, Emily Plankhurst arrives in town and appears in the bakery with a mystery. She tells Sam she’s had a vision of her father’s grandmother standing. Emily’s deceased great-grandmother was standing there in front of her. Sam discovers Emily has inherited a specialist library from her Grandparents and is the owner and Head Librarian whilst living on-site. No one expects a deceased relative to stand before them, let alone believe their story unless you’re Sam Sweet.
It seems that a lost treasure has been discovered as Sam’s investigation gets started, which links to Emily’s grandfather, suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, and a cold case of arson where a teenager died. Twenty-five years after the arson, Emily’s grandfather remains a suspect, the insurance paid out to the billionaire owner, and the teen’s murder is still unsolved.
Whether you choose to read this physically or via audio, this gives a festive atmosphere. If you can cope with a single narrator voicing all the characters, I would go for the audiobook. I think some would struggle to get the festivities reading the novel physically, hi you’re talking to a dyslexic. Now, I have a confession. It’s been a while since I’ve read the book, so originally I couldn’t remember if I gave it four or five stars before I looked back at social media.

I gave it four stars in the end, for two reasons mainly. I worked out who the murderer (mastermind) was extremely quickly, plus I found the conclusion of the case and the suspect’s arrest weird. Then again, looking back now I’ve got no idea what I was expecting when I finished the book. It’s certainly not going to stop me from continuing with the rest of the series. I’m almost at the end now, which to me seems crazy. Although, book sixteen isn’t available through audible so it may take a while if you’re waiting on my next review or at least my upcoming social media posts.
