Celebrating 100 Years of Winnie the Pooh

Part Two

The House at Pooh Corner by A.A. Milne, with decorations by E.H. Shepard

Tigger comes to the Forest and has Breakfast

Tigger comes to the Hundred Acre Wood, begging the question, “Do Tiggers really, truly eat everything? I don’t think so.”

Looking back on my memories of watching Walt Disney, Winnie-the-Pooh movies as a child, the second story in the Milne book is not how I remember it. Where are the Heffalumps and Woozles? In the book, Tigger doesn’t even mention them; he doesn’t even warn Pooh that they steal honey. I think the only similarity is Winnie-the-Pooh being awoken by Tigger.

In the book, all Tigger thinks about is breakfast, trying everyone’s favourite food, and finding that Tigger is a very fussy eater. Now, what parent or guardian hasn’t experienced their child or children behaving exactly like that? Milne is incredible at creating characters and creatures that relate to children and parents (guardians).
